How Do I Know When I Need New Breast Pump Accessories

Your Breast pump comes with many parts and accessories. Most moms are aware that their pump has at least a one year warranty and is made to last at least until their baby is 12 months old. However, most pump companies offer a 90 day warranty on accessories as well. If you find that your pump is not working as effectively as when you first started using it, you may need to change out one or more of your parts.
So how do you know which part needs replacing?
The first thing you need to do is examine your pump pieces carefully.
Is there any moisture in the tubing or exterior backflow protector shield?
Are there any small rips or tears in the tubing, membrane or valve?
Is everything securing together and airtight?
If everything is undamaged, then it becomes an issue of wear.
The recommendations for replacing breast pump parts vary by usage amount,
but with “typical use” (pumping 1-2 times a day) you will need to replace your
-breast shields: Every 6 months
-Bottles: 3-6 months (depends on whether they are used for pumping only or also feeding.)
-Tubing:  6 months
-Valves (duckbill or circle): 2 months
-backflow protector shields: 6 months
-membrane (rubbery piece in between backflow protector shields.)3-6 months
If you use your pump more often or are an exclusive pumper, you may need to contact
the breast pump manufacturer to ask their recommendations.
